ARGOS – Aerospace Propeller Useful for Diesel Engines with Extreme Excitation of Vibration

Jun 7, 2021

PROJECT TITLE:

Aerospace Propeller Useful for Diesel Engines with Extreme Excitation of Vibration (ARGOS)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Development and testing of aircraft propeller designed for diesel (230-260 kW) engine, where considerably higher levels of vibration are expected – both the overall engine vibration and especially the vibration transmitted to the propeller by the motor shaft (torsional oscillations).

The ARGOS project is focused on the development of a special hydraulically adjustable composite propeller and its damping system. The propeller demonstrator will be tested on a diesel engine of the French company SMA belonging to the SAFRAN consortium. The project is led by the Czech manufacturer of aircraft propellers – Woodcomp Propellers. Jihostroj, a South Bohemian manufacturer of propeller governors, is working on the project as well.

VZLU is responsible for the design of measuring chains, preparation of measurements relating to vibration and torsional vibrations generated by the propeller, data evaluation and design solutions for torsional vibration damper.

The ARGOS European project belongs to the joint technology initiative JTI Clean Sky 2.
