VZLU is part of a mission to Jupiter's moons

The mission called JUICE (Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer) is the first mission of the class L (Large) selected for implementation under the ESA Cosmic Vision 2015-2025. The main objective of the mission is a thorough exploration of the planet Jupiter and its three moons, Europa, Callisto and Ganymede, which could provide acceptable living conditions.
For moons, Europa and Ganymede, it is assumed the presence of extensive subsurface ocean of liquid water. JUICE spacecraft equipped with solar panels will have to map the surface of these moons, to probe their internal structure and evaluate their potential for possible presence of life in the oceans beneath the surface of moons. Their deep oceans are protected from cosmic radiation thick ice layer and are probably warmed up from inside.

Jupiter has a total of 65 moons and in the vicinity occurs the strongest radiation belt in the solar system. In 1973 and 1979 flew by Jupiter probe Pioneer and Voayger. In 1989, on the orbit of Jupiter has arrived the Galileo spacecraft, which was sent by NASA. Also probe Juno is heading to the Jupiter and will arrive at Jupiter in July 2016.

Probe of mission JUICE will launch in 2022 from Kourou in French Guiana on board of the rocket Ariane-5. To the planet Jupiter will arrive in 2030. JUICE shall refrain orbiting Jupiter three years and will examine Callisto and Europa, and later also Ganymede - the largest moon in the solar system. JUICE will continuously observe the atmosphere and magnetosphere of Jupiter as well as the links between their own planet and the Galilean moons.

The whole mission is divided into several parts. Currently VZLU cooperates with two Czech partners in this mission. The first is the company 5M s.r.o, which is involved in the development of structural panel of cosmic satellites with a radiation shield. Specifically VZLU will provide structural design of the panel and qualification tests. The other partner is the company Frentech Aerospace Ltd. The aim of this project is to develop and qualify the arm carrying the magnetometer. VZLU will provide draft of arm and carries a qualifying tests.
