VZLU gained "Technological Oscar"

Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TACR) awarded annually so called "Technological Oscars' - award of TAČR 2014 for applied research.

TAČR evaluates applied research projects in four categories - utility solutions, the originality of solutions, economic benefits and solutions for quality of life.
This year in the category "originality solution" was awarded the EPOS project dealing with the development of electric drive units (EPJ) for small aircraft and its flight inspection.
In the development of electric power for use for propel aircraft embarked team of researchers led by the company EVEKTOR. Evektor has more than twenty years of experience in the design of small sport aircrafts. Together with the Aerospace Research and Test Establisment (VZLU) and company Lubos Chvatal went into the manufacture of a prototype of an electric motor built into the design of mass-produced sport aircraft. The cruise prototype achieves speeds of 160 km/h and stays in the air about an hour. VZLÚ contributs with the design of new propeller and subsequent laboratory testing.
Electromobility delivers yet only lower local emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases. Significant is noise reduction. A key factor preventing wider dissemination are batteries. In recent years, however, there was a significant increase in their capacity, weight reduction and life extension.
Other award-winning projects were: saving lifting platforms, sensors measuring humidity football pitch and software, which helps in deciding how many pesticides is used on specific fields.
