In the middle of 2020, VZLU is finishing research and development project PROPCONEL (More electric, advanced hydromechanic propeller control components together with Jihostroj a.s. (project coordinator) and the French company SAFRAN Group.
The international project is focused on the development of new generation propeller control systems for turboprop engines belonging to the category 1800 - 2000 shp. The aim of the project was to design a system with better engine control efficiency, lower fuel consumption, reduced weight and extended time between overhauls.
The new system contains speed control devices in positive or negative thrust modes and the overspeed protection device in transient or failure conditions.
VZLU participated on design, mathematical models and provided extensive testing of the system by climatic and vibration tests. At the end, the new equipment also passed demanding tests of fire resistance, for which VZLU is fully equipped.
The project is financially supported by the European Commission within the joint technical initiative JTI Clean Sky 2, which is part of the European Horizon 2020 program No. 714371.
