Water jet nozzle for radio testing by using curved array probe (2019)

During research works on the DKRVO-IFRAME project, a special water-jet nozzle for the Phased Array Olympus 5CC25-32-R4 probe was developed. The nozzle is designed for NDT inspections of the radii of the test parts. The nozzle shell and adapter for its attachment to the 3-axis NDT manipulator were manufactured by 3D printing using SLS and FDM methods. Tests on an inspection reference panel made of thermoplastic composite with artificial defects proved the functionality of the chosen design solution. The nozzle is especially suitable for automated inspections of radii of larger size parts or parts where it is necessary to minimize their exposure to the aquatic environment.

Test rig for dynamic behavior of bladed disk (2019)

The functional sample is an experimental test device used to identify the dynamic properties of a rotating bladed disk. The experimental device imitates the operating load of the bladed disk, which is defined by the harmonic excitation. The experimental device is able to measure the dynamic response on individual blades during rotation of the disk. Dynamic response is measured using a laser and a set of mirrors.

Blowing system for active flow control (2019)

Modular laboratory system of blowing for active flow control was designed. The system is intended for the experimental research of the boundary layer control using blowing. Its flexible layout makes possible different methods of the blowing, continuous, pulse using electronic-mechanical valves, pulse using fluidic valves. The core of the system consisting of a measuring bench with a proportional valve, a flowmeter, pressure gauges, a thermometer and relevant tubing was designed and manufactured. Control and regulation system including control software with air flow as a pre-set governing parameter was designed and verified. Fundamental functionality of the system were verified by test measurements of continuous blowing out of a slot, by measurement of continuous blowing using two Matrix electronic-mechanical valves and by measurement of pulse blowing using a newly designed and manufactured fluidic valve.

Strain gauge sensor network (2019)

The proposed sensor network implementation consists of a powerful server application, a graphical user application, and twelve-channel wireless strain gauge nodes. The report describes the state of development towards the end of 2019 when one prototype was produced. On this prototype, the basic functionality under laboratory conditions was tuned.

Testing facility for cyclic torsional loading of tubular structure parts, with possibility of axial pretension (2019)

The special testing device is designed for service life (fatigue) tests of specimens submitted by torsional loading. The specimen is tightly fixed to a base of the testing room on one (bottom) side and a cyclic force performs eccentrically on the other (upper) side, causing the torque loading. As a generator of the cyclic force can be used various resources as pulsators, in our case the electrodynamic vibrator is applied. The upper side of the specimen is mounted in a massive framework with a bearing allowing its torque deformation, but restraining its bending. The other part of this structure is an adapter for mounting of a pulley hinge for optional possibility of tension preload in axis of the specimen.

Hydrophobic coating of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloys (2019)

The problem of solid surface icing is a topical problem especially in the transport sector, specifically in the aerospace industry. Currently, this undesirable phenomenon is solved by passive (spraying) or active (heating, air cushions, etc.) approach. This result deals with the possibility of preparation of hydrophobic surface and its influence on elimination of icing on metals, namely on titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V. Technological process of antifreeze coating on titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V and its influence on elimination of frost formation and adhesion to surface on titanium alloy.

Honeycomb made of geopolymer fiber composite (2019)

Heat resistant honeycomb of low specific weight, serving as the core of the sandwich structure, with regular n-square cells, made of composite material, consisting of reinforcement fibres and the geopolymer matrix, composed of burned shale, amorphous silica and silicate aqueous solution of potassium or sodium. The reinforcing fibers are characterized by high modulus of elasticity, they are fire resistant, alkali resistant and can be arranged in any textile form, suitable for processing into a composite.

Ion engine test line (2019)

The report describes the ion engine test line implemented at VZLU. The ion engine test line is designed primarily for measuring the air (atmosphere) breathing electric propulsion (ABEP) thrust of an ion engine using the Earth's residual atmosphere at altitudes of about 120-300 km, the so-called VLEO (Very Low Earth Orbit). The aim of the design of the ion engine test line is to simulate the environment surrounding the satellite at VLEO in terrestrial conditions, while measuring the properties of the ion engine and enabling the qualification of this device. By designing the test line it is also possible to qualify and measure thrust of standard ion motors.

Demonstrator of Aircraft Interior Panel Made of Fiber Reinforced Geopolymer Composite (2019)

Realization of the Demonstrator No. 2 has proved manufacturability of real aircraft interior part of inorganic, geopolymer based composite material. Standard serial mold as well as common vacuum bag manufacturing procedure have been applied with no complications. Totally three moldings of the Demonstrator were manufactured: Molding A was intended for exhibition purposes only. Its surface was extensively filled and painted (and its weight exceeded expected value, but was not a priority criterion here). The molding B underwent prolonged flame penetration test (10 minutes instead of prescribed 5 minutes). Design and material of the molding B showed (as expected) exceptional fire resistance and negligible smoke emission during the test. The geopolymer honeycomb core didn’t cause “pillow effect” as was observed at the previous tests at organic sandwiches cores and the part has retained very good structural integrity after the test.

Paint stripper (2019)

The functional sample was developed to remove old coatings used for surface protection of aircraft technology without damaging the base material. It is a thixotropic mixture that diffuses to the substrate, disrupts the bonding between the coating and the substrate and facilitates its removal. The mixture contains no aggressive components and can be applied to vertical surfaces. The removers tested were designed to meet the latest environmental requirements while not damaging the base material.

Painting system for extreme climatic conditions (2019)

The functional sample was developed to protect the outer parts of aircraft under extreme climatic conditions. The basic requirement was to maintain excellent adhesion of the coating system even under extreme conditions, which was verified according to the agreed methodology. The coating system has been designed to meet the conditions required by the end user, ie Aircraft Industries. The environmental aspect also plays an important role as efforts to minimize the burden on the environment are increasing. The coating system consists of two paints - an epoxy primer and a polyurethane topcoat.

Non-combustible interior paints (2019)

The functional sample, a water-based acrylic copolymer based paint, is distinguished primarily by its reduced flammability and low VOC content while maintaining a transparent nature, high gloss and good mechanical properties, in particular in terms of flexibility, adhesion and toughness. It can be used in applications where treated surfaces of objects are exposed to the risk of fire. The functional sample can act as both a primer system and a topcoat, and in the event of a fire-protected surface, extend the service life and maintain the functional properties.

Special coating system for aerospace (2018)

The result is a special coating system with improved wear-resistance. The developed coating system consists of a basic anticorrosive epoxy paint (S2318 NG) with a top polyurethane layer (U2081 NG), to which a transparent Synpo PU 186L lacquer was applied. The basic anticorrosive layer and top polyurethane layer are currently used in aviation for application to aircraft exterior. Using another layer, the transparent Synpo PU 186L lacquer, has increased the life of the coating system and improved its protective function in abrasive and erosive environments. The undercoat is a VOC-reduced coating system (S2318 NG + U2081 NG) developed for the exterior coating of aircraft as part of the TE02000011 project. The coating is mainly intended for the aluminum alloys from which these parts are made.

Functional sample of progressive wave tube for acoustic fatigue tests of structural panels (2018)

The functional sample of the progressive wave tube for acoustic fatigue tests of structural panels was designed in modular conception. Acoustic waves are generated by electrodynamic loudspeakers, transition sections adjust the active area of the membrane to the cross-section of the acoustic tube and keep the flatness of the acoustic waves. This make it possible - easy modeling of acoustic wave and its motion in the FE simulations of experiments, - minimization of standing wave formation in comparison to the perpendicular impacts of the plane acoustic waves - a relatively large range of frequencies of the acoustic load available up to decay of plane acoustic waves.

De-icing controller (2018)

The controller serves for driving heating elements of the de-icing system. Part of the system is wireless telemetry for measurement up to 48 temperature channels.

Hyperspectral Dosimeter (2018)

The HyperSpectral Dosimeter (HSD) was developed for the VZLUSAT2 nanosatellite mission. It is an intelligent digital radiation detector that can measure the spectra for low energies and serves also as a dosimeter for higher energies. HSD achieves parameters that correspond to the larger devices.

CubeSat Payload Computer (2018)

The result describes the laboratory prototype of CubeSat Payload Computer. For the VZLUSAT-2 mission a simple computer for payloads and actuators was designed on rugged single chip MSP430FR5969. If required the manufacturer also supplies the radiation-resistant version of the chip with Single Event Latchup immunity. The CubeSat Payload Computer can be operated on FreeRTOS and with CSP (CubeSat Space Protocol) communication protocol to implement a decentralized system.

Test Facility for High-Speed Probe Calibration (2018)

A new test facility was built up as a part of a closed-loop transonic wind tunnel in VZLU´s High-speed Aerodynamics Department. The wind tunnel is driven by a twelve stage radial compressor and Mach and Reynolds numbers can be changed by the compressor speed and by the total pressure in the wind tunnel loop by a set of vacuum pumps, respectively. The facility consists of an axisymmetric subsonic nozzle with an exit diameter de = 100 mm. The subsonic nozzle is designed for regimes up to M = 1 at the nozzle outlet. At the nozzle inlet there is a set of a honeycomb and screens to ensure the flow stream laminar at the outlet of the nozzle. The subsonic nozzle can be supplemented with a transonic slotted nozzle or a supersonic rigid nozzle for transonic and supersonic outlet Mach numbers.

Fixture for loading of adhesive joints with compression load transfer (2018)

The design and realization of the fixture for loading of adhesive joints with compression load transfer is documented. The fixture is used to evaluate the fatigue crack growth in cyclic alternating tensile and pressure stresses. The efficiency of technologies for slowing the crack growth in the lap joint can be determined on the samples.

Test rig for experimental verification of combustion chamber sectors (2017)

Test equipment of combustion chamber segments has capability of experimental performance in range of 1-6,5 bar with temperature 120-300°C. Fuel supply is limited to range 0-1,5 MPa. Test rig is equipped with temperature and pressure probes for identification of combustion chamber performance parameters (temperature field, overal pressure loss etc.) The rig was design also for usage of laser-based measurements like PIV or OH-PLIF for characterization of primary zone.

Modified combustion chamber JETIS (2017)

The JETIS combustion chamber is designed for small turbine engines. Designed combustor has unique system of flame stabilization in primary zone based on generation of strong swirl with rotation axis aligned with fuel nozzle axis. The modifications of new version are focused on primary distribution piping angle and also to the modification of secandary zone air distribution. Redesign of secondary zone is aimed to homogenize temperature field in combustion chamber exhaust.

Functional sample of three-axis orientation and stabilization control system (2017)

The functional sample represents the HW 3-axis orientation and stabilization control system for the VZLUSAT-2 satellite. The system consists of a printed circuit board, to which the magnetic coils forming the actuators are connected, and a magnetometer forming the sensing system of the orientation and stabilization control system.

The test rig for flammability of aviation materials test has been designed, manufactured and assembled. This test rig requirements are described in the CS-25 appendix F part III regulation. After that, the test rig was developed and tuned to meet the requirements of the above-mentioned regulation. The test rig has been introduced for operational status by verifying the ability to perform flammability tests in accordance with the requirements of CS-25 appendix F part III.

Functional sample of optical module and detector for rocket experiment (2017)

The design was based on the concept of an optical buffle, which is normally used for NASA Sounding rocket experiments. This is a simple construction of a quill-shaped boulder with anchor on one of the base of the block, where the buffle is attached to the partition of the sounding rocket. The project was designed, assembled, tested (environmental and optical tests) and a REX (Rocket EXPERIMENT) wide-angle optical X-ray device, consisting of two parts - Vacuum and Hermetic Box. The vacuum section contains 2 X-ray telescopes, one with a focal length of 250 mm and a focal length of 1400 mm. In addition, a VIS camera is placed in the vacuum section to verify the orientation of telescopes and an IR camera with wide field of view. The Hermetic Box contains all on-board electronics including its own batteries for powering electronics and all of the vacuum part detectors. The Hermetic Box contains 2 sets of electronics including batteries, DC / DC converter and on-board computer. A small commercial computer ODROID was selected for the REX project. The first on-board computer is connected to an optical system that contains 2D X-ray widescreen lobster eye (LE) and Timepix optics; an optical system containing 1D X-ray is attached to the other widescreen lobster eye (LE) and modified Timepix and VIS camera and IR camera. Timepix detectors are on the Risesat electronics.

Functional sample of adhesive joint shape lock (2017)

Functional sample of bonded joint equipped by shape lock in the form of manufactured test specimen "double-root" type representing way of composite structure fixation on the a fan blade root. Bonded joint of both composite blade faces with steel stud equipped by shape lock, preventing sliding of the composite faces on the steel stud in the case of bonded joint failure, is further assured by outside overlaps and bandage formed by UD reinforcement behind the shape lock. The bandage combined with the shape lock is able to hold the faces in places even bonded connections failed.

Gimbal Test-rig for oil system (2017)

Zkušební zařízení je konstruováno pro simulaci funkce olejového systému turbovrtulového motoru série GE-H75 upraveného pro akrobatické aplikace. Functional sample of the new stage with higher efficiency IR_v1

The new turbine stage was designed, then materially implemented and its characteristics were tested on the VZLÚ test facility. Universal stand for the dynamic response research during the high speed impact (2016)

The purpose of this equipment is the experimental research of the dynamic response during the high-speed impact – it means the impact of the bird or of the hail at the flight speed (bird-strike or hail-strike). The stand is destined to support the specimen within impact of projectile (bird or hail) ejected from the pneumatic gun. The stand design enables the impact in any angle (from 0° to 90°), without change of the contact point. The dynamic response measurement is realized by means of load cells.

Clamping system for ultrasonic inspection in immersion tank (2016)

The unique modular system can be used to clamping the test parts during their nondestructive testing in the immersion tank. Anemoetric sensors power supply system with constant amperage and amplitude modulation options

Anemometric sensors power supply system can be used instead of maintaining a constant temperature system. It maintains a constant amperage through the sensors. Through sensor passes a constant amperage of a value that the sensor has a rest temperature (no fluid flow), e.g. 150 ° C. This temperature determines the wire resistance (usually units of ohms) and thus the size of the voltage, which is on both ends of the sensor. At increasing flow of liquid, this voltage decreases; the electronics evaluate the voltage (after appropriate amplification) and thus determine the fluctuation velocity of the fluid flow.

The specimen allows to study the influence of the previous stage´s flow structures to the kinetic energy loss of the next stage in order to gain important knowledge for the loss models for the design of new turbine stages. Low noise phase-locked loop (PLL) is primarily intended for use with high precision timing systems. It can generate suitable frequency of 100MHz stable in both short and long term using internal low noise voltage-controlled oscillator locked to an external long term stable reference, e.g., GPS disciplined oscillator of 10MHz. The device has an external passive loop filter which may be changed in order to slightly adjust the parameters of the PLL to match needs of specific application. One of the SIMPATEST project goals was determined to design and manufacture an Air cannon (bird strike test system) for simulation of collision between flying objects (up to 4 kg weight) and aircraft structures. During design of the Air cannon was decided to innovate and modify existing design of loading chamber in order to simplify and speed up loading process of the cannon. To ensure fast and safe loading of the Air cannon a loading chamber with sliding “breech” was designed. After sliding the breech back it is accessed main barrel for inserting a projectile - polystyrene "sabot" containing firing body. After insertion of the projectile the sliding breech is closed and secured with four locking clamps.

Oscillation balance (2015)

Oscillation balance for dumping derivations during roll for wind tunnel aircraft models. Dumping roll oscillations are measured with Hall senzor, which is build in the balance. Because of Hall senzor, the balance must be made from non-magnetic materials. Chosen design of the balance requires external springs for stabilization of the aircraft model.

This result was developed within FR-TI4/603 project  " Advanced Wing for the AJT Aircraft" provider MPO.
