The commissioning ceremony of a turbine facility took place on 29 April 2010. The facility was established under the project "Unsteady Flow of an Axial-Flow Turbine Stage Investigation" supported by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic (FT-TA5/067). The project is carried out in cooperation of universities, VZLÚ and two industrial partners, Škoda Power and PBS Velká Bíteš, who will also be the main beneficiaries of the results. A specialized facility for research of unsteady flow in axial turbine stage was developed in the course of the project. Equipment, which should help in designing a new generation of turbines, is operated in the VZLU area in Palmovka where many other measurements are carried out in the field of high speed aerodynamics.
The ceremonial launch of the test facility was attended by representatives of all partners, ie Škoda Power, PBS Velká Bíteš, CTU Prague, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen and VZLÚ. And since this was an important event, the representatives of the Korean Doosan Group, the new owner of Skoda Power, were also present.
New turbine facility for measuring the axial turbine stages will be used mainly for fundamental and applied research in the field of turbomachinery. The facility is equipped with tools for measuring unsteady flow behind the rotor, thereby opening up new possibilities for research on flow in turbines.
