On September 19, 2009, an open day event was held at a branch of the Aeronautical Research and Test Institute a.s. (VZLU) in Palmovka, Prague, organized by Prague 8 Municipal District Authority within the European Heritage Days.
The quests were given the opportunity to visit the Libeň gas-holder, which has been used by the Institute, since 1949, as a vacuum chamber for the operation of high-speed wind tunnels.
Guided by the members of the team of high-speed aerodynamics the visitors could see for themselves the spherical gas-holder itself and learn more about its history, and visit with the measuring room of the wind tunnel which is connected to the chamber where they were explained the basic principles of the wind tunnel operation.
The event attracted many visitors, similar to the previous years. According to those who guided the event, approx. 700 people visited the gas-holder on the open day.
