In new investment package is included the continuation of the JTI Clean Sky within the EU Horizon 2020 Framework Programme. Clean Sky 2 involves 4 bn. EUR of research activity within a coherent programmatic approach. The EU plans to invest 1.8 bn. EUR in the Clean Sky 2 Programme under Horizon 2020, building on the investment of 0.8 bn. EUR to date under FP7.
More than thirty Czech organizations declared interests to participate in the JTI Clean Sky 2, including larger aircraft manufacturers, SMEs, research establishments and universities. The Czech participation will be targeted on three major innovation areas: efficient production technologies of small aircraft (metal and composite), development of turboprop and turboshaft engines of lower power range, development of key aircraft systems. The Czech industry promoted their research and technology interests through the informal SAT (Small Aircraft Transport) group, which objective is to significantly boost competitiveness of European aircraft manufacturers belonging to the General Aviation sector.
Clean Sky 2 will be launched in 2014 and overall project completion is scheduled for the end of 2024. Program will be focused on research investments and major demonstration activities with objective to reduce the negative impact of the aviation sector on the environment. Innovations from Clean Sky 2 will underpin advances in the next generation of aircraft. Clean Sky 2 will be a core European programme which will be leveraged by further activities funded at national, regional and private levels. This will allow to fully reach the ambitious environmental targets set by the Advisory Council for Aeronautics Research in Europe (ACARE) for year 2020.
