Annual meeting of the International Project CERFAC in VZLU
The annual 30M meeting of the FP7 CERFAC project (Cost Effective reinforcements for composites in fastener areas) was held in VZLU on 25 and 26 April.
The main objective of the project is the design and manufacturing of cost-effective joints with high performance CFRP for use in primary composite aircraft structures. New types of joints will increase the strength to cost ratio and damage tolerance of fastener areas. The increase in strength will be achieved without increasing the weight, thickness and stiffness, while at the same time the number of fasteners will be reduced. The increase in the utility properties of joints will be achieved using the latest composite materials based on carbon and technologies (e.g., NCF, Fibre Patch Preforming, etc.).
The meeting was attended by representatives of 15 European companies participating in the project. CENEARO is the main project coordinator and there are also main aircraft producers in Europe (EADS, Dassault, SABCA, Eurocopter), universities and research institutions working on the project.
