A training workshop of the project CESAR (Cost Effective Small Aircraft) is going to be held in the Prague Congress Hall from 18 to 19 March 2009. The project CESAR is focused on research and technology development on small regional planes for 5 to 15 passengers. The workshop is primarily oriented on needs of CESAR participants as a form of training event in the aerodynamic field. Nevertheless also external organizations having interest in exploitation of CESAR results and know-how are warmly welcomed.

Another edition of workshop devoted to applied aerodynamics took place on October 7, 2008 at VZLU. Following its tradition, the workshop was concentrated on flow simulation techniques, both theoretical and experimental. Around 50 attendees heard 13 papers lectured by authors from VZLU, Skoda Power, TechSoft Engineering, ČVUT Prague, and VUT Brno. Apart from aviation, the contributions dealt also with automobiles and steam turbines. All the contributions are available on VZLU websites.
VZLU Aerodynamics Division studies a number of aerodynamics disciplines such as CFD, aerodynamic optimization, flight mechanics, transonic and supersonic flows, road vehicle - specially car aerodynamics, building aerodynamics, wind engineering, pedestrian comfort, air conditioning, turbines and compressors, wind tunnel measurements, etc. The Division´s customers include aircraft, car and other transportation designers. VZLU has several wind tunnels located in Prague.
On 30.September and 1.10.2008 was held two-day meeting of CESAR (Cost-Effective Small AiRcraft) project participants in Congress Centre in Prague. The CESAR project is aimed at research and development of technologies for small-size commercial aircraft for 5 till 15 persons. All meeting was organized by Výzkumný a zkušební letecký ústav, which is the coordinator of the project. Together with more than 70 participants from 39 companies and 14 countries took part in this second meeting also representative of European Commission Mr. José Manuel Martin-Hernandez a two external reviewers. Single leaders of project parts presented their results on the project. The work flow in second project year was evaluated very positively by both representative of European Commission and two external reviewers.
On 29. September 2008 12 representatives of major aeronautical research organisations in Europe, which are the EREA (European Research Establishment in Aeronautics) members, signed up in Rhode Saint Genèse near Brussels a letter addressed to European Commissioner Janez Potočnik, in which they materialized their common decision to adhere to the principles of European Charter for Researchers and on a Code of Conduct for Recruitment of Researchers. The letter was handed over to the Commissioner who attended the signature ceremony. The EREA members are CIRA of Italy, DLR of Germany, FOI of Sweden, ILOT of Poland, INTA of Spain, NLR of the Netherlands, ONERA of France and VZLU of Czech Republic. Associate members are ARC of Austria, INCAS of Romania, VKI of Belgium and VTT of Finland.
A new box-shape corrosion chamber, type SKB 1000 ATR, was put in operation at VZLU in June 2008. Made by Gebr. Liebisch GmbH & Co. KG Labortechnik, this chamber is ranked among best in its category. Microprocessor-controlled, it features a test room of 1,000 dm3, which increases the existing testing capacity in carrying out SS, ASS, CASS salt fog tests, KK condensation and cyclic condensation tests. The chamber makes it possible to conduct other types of tests conforming to national and international standards, as well as regulations and methods as used in particular branches, typical examples being ČSN EN ISO 9227, ISO 6270-2, ASTM B117, ASTM G85, RTCA/DO-160, MIL-STD-810, PV1210, etc.
