VZLU is successful in Clean Sky 2

After setbacks in the first call of the Clean Sky 2 program, VZLU managed to get three projects within the second call of the Clean Sky 2. This is a relatively large success, which is conditioned by the efforts of other cooperating Czech partners, which are Jihostroj and Woodcomp. MUTR Project - Multipurpose Test Rig for Transmissions Gearboxes. The object of the project is the design and implementation of the subsidiary (adaptation) gearbox, which is part of a multi-purpose test equipment designed for testing newly designed helicopter gearboxes. These gearboxes are developed for a particular type of high-speed helicopter with side rotors reaching speeds up to 470 km/h. Helicopter with a working title LifeCraft is being developed by Airbus Helicopters.

PROPCONEL Project - More Electric, Advanced Hydromechanics Propeller Control Components. This is a project led by the Jihostroj company with an objective to develop advanced propeller control device, which will include more electronics. The control device demonstrator will be tested on turboprop engines from Turbomeca. VZLU’s task is to perform reliability analysis and create a hydrodynamic model of the control of the propeller of an aircraft turboprop engine. Furthermore VZLU ensures climatic and vibration tests to check the resistance of a newly designed system to external influences. Fire resistance tests are part of VZLU activities.

ARGOS project - Aerospace propeller Useful for diesel engines with extreme excitation of vibrations is a result of the long-term cooperation with the Czech company Woodcomp Propellers, who is also the coordinator of this project. Jihostroj is another participant of the project. The topic of the project focuses on the development of a special hydraulically adjustable composite propeller and its damping system. Propeller demonstrator will be tested on a diesel engine of the French company SMA belonging to the SAFRAN consortium. VZLU will be responsible for the design of measuring chains, preparation of measurements relating to vibration and torsional vibrations generated by the propeller, data evaluation and design solutions for torsional vibration damper.

Joint Technology Program's initiative JTI Clean Sky 2 is the largest program of the European research in the field of aviation, which originated in the mode of PPP (Public Private Partnership) between the European industry and the research community on one side and the European Commission on the other. The European Commission will provide a subsidy of nearly 1.8 billion EUR for the period of 2015 - 2023 to run the Clean Sky 2 program, which is roughly half the total of the allocated funds for this program.
