VZLÚ has significantly enlarged its activities in JTI Clean Sky 2

In the 3rd and 4th Clean Sky 2 call of proposals VZLU managed to obtain funding for three research projects:  DREAM, LATTE and INAFLOWT.

Projects DREAM (Design and Realization of equipped engine compartments Including Cowling for a fast Compound rotorcraft) and LATTE (Full Fairing for Main Rotor Head of the LifeRCraft demonstrator) are focused on the development and production of composite hybrid design of the motor and the rotor cover for high-speed helicopter Airbus Helicopters based on the concept X3 according to CS29. The project will result in flight composite piece designed to ground and flight tests of the prototype. A DREAM and LATTE projects are coordinated by the Polish Instytut Lotnictwa (ILOT) and besides VZLU the other partner in both projects is Czech manufacturer of aircraft composite parts LA composite.

The objective of the INAFLOWT project is to use combinations of existing active flow control (AFC) concepts to generate a major advance in AFC aerodynamic efficiency and reliability. Steady suction in combination with oscillatory blowing will be combined using arrays of the no-moving parts SaOB actuator. Active boundary layer separation control concepts will be studied using numerical simulations, as well as with bench-top, simplified geometry and small scale wind tunnel testing. The most promising concept will be tested, integrated as real-scale prototypes in a large wind tunnel model representative of the ultra-high bypass ratio (UHBR) engine/pylon/wing/high-lift system configuration, at realistic Reynolds number, to prove results in near industrial environment. Testing will take place in TsAGI wind tunnel . INAFLOWT project is coordinated by the University of Tel Aviv with whom is VZLU in mutual cooperation.

Joint Technology Program's initiatives JTI Clean Sky 2 is the largest program of European research in the field of aviation, resulting in the mode of PPP (Public Private Partnership) between the European industry and research community on one side and the European Commission on the other. The European Commission provides subsidy of nearly 1.8 billion EUR for the period of 2015 to 2023 in CS2 programm, which are roughly half the total allocated funds for this program.
