EPOS - Development of the Electric Power Unit (EPU) for a small aircraft and its flight verification.
Project objectives
The global objective of the EPOS project is development of the electric power unit for a small two-seat aircraft and its flight verification. The project is aimed at implementation of the whole cycle beginning from definition of power system components, through construction of functional prototypes of the power unit up to its verification, by installing it in a modified, already existing aircraft and verification in flight. The output should be therefore a completely tested power system. The power unit is composed of the electromotor, system of control units, controlling system and the system of accumulator with their management system. The newly developed propeller which is optimized for the EPU is a part of the power unit. Performance characteristics of the EPU must be comparable with the combustion engine Rotax 912. The flight time with the EPU installed in the aircraft of Eurostar – SportStar series with the standardly defined accumulator unit is supposed to be 1 hour.
