Development of accelerometers to be used in space
Since 2002 VZLU has been dealing with the development and manufacture of microaccelerometers to measure very small accelerations in space. This high-precision equipment makes it possible to measure how non-gravitational forces affect satellites´ orbits and subsequently to process and refine dynamic models of the earth atmosphere.
Work is focused on the development of new circuits and mechanical parts of accelerometers to increase their resolution and stability, and to evaluate the influence of the space environment on the device parameters.
The microaccelerometers will be used in SWARM project, which is funded by the European space agency ESA and partly by a Czech project TEASER.
VZLU wants to continue working on the development and manufacture of microaccelerometers in the future and to enlarge its participation in the European space programmes in other fields as well.
